How Sebelah
Came to Life…

Mohd Afiq Deen Azizan, Radiology Malaysia Digital Video Contest Third Prize Winner
| |
Mohd Afiq Deen Azizan, 22 year
old 4th year architecture student,
tells us about his short film, Sebelah
that was submitted for the RM-OPN2009 Digital Video contest. He says, “My
aunt who is now 33 found a lump in one of her breast when she did a
mammogram. It affected her psychologically
because she was still in
a stage where beauty is
a vital part of her. Since the cancer was
detected in its earlier stage, the lump was removed promptly and she did
not require a
mastectomy. This brought about the idea
of young women who
had mastectomy done
on them. How would
they feel? How does the mastectomy change
them and the people around them? With that Sebelah came to life.
It's a short film with subliminal messages
and layered meanings to confront and somehow resolve the mental state of
young breast cancer patients.

| | FEEDBACK Testimony
| 23 June 2006: I am a 35-year old young lady and was recently diagnosed with cancer in the right breast. I am also a registered nurse, and check my breast regularly. After my menstruation I had noticed that a lump was in my breast. I said I would wait and see if it will still be there by my next menstrual period.
I went to my doctor here in The Netherlands and he told me it was a milk lymph but I did not trust it. I asked my doctor if I could go to a specialist. I was sent to get a mammogram, it was not clear enough said the doctor and I did an ultrasound and after that 5 punctures (biopsy using needles to take samples for pathology test). It was really painful. I went back a week after the test results were ready and was diagnosed with breast cancer. In the mean time I have had surgery for the right breast and still have to undergo chemotherapy. The information on your site is really good. I read it and send the site to other friends. Every time I am not quite sure of something or information, I go straight to the net. Thanks for the information. - S.A C. | | Curb False Advertising for Cancer Detection
