KL Girls Brigade Company Gets Breast Aware, Kuala Lumpur – 10
Oct 2009 By
Dr Evelyn Ho
The 1st Kuala Lumpur Girls Brigade Company had a
different programme prepared for them on the Saturday afternoon of 10th
October, 2009. The Girls Brigade members ranged from 12 to 18 years of age,
possibly the best age at which to create the need to be breast aware and how to
familiarise themselves with their breasts, and its development. Their mothers
were also invited to the interactive talk on Breast Health Awareness.
Despite their tender age, it was evident that they were not totally ignorant of
breast health issues including breast cancer. It was also timely that they
learnt not to be shy of their breasts and learnt to know their own breasts. As
the age range of the audience was wide, the talks were divided into sections
–“Understanding the Breasts”,” How to be Breast Aware” and finally, “Do I need a
Mammogram?” The mothers also appeared to have had a good time, hopefully
empowered with more information on their own breast health.
The College of Radiology wishes to thank the 1st KL GB Company for
their participation in the OutRageously PiNK Nite, 7 Nov 2009 as volunteers and
the opportunity to spread breast health to them as well as Dr Allirani Arumugam, who
took time off to join the 10th Oct breast health talks. | |
