From the President's desk.....

Dear Colleagues,

As I take over as President of the College of Radiology (CoR), my first thoughts are on the many issues that the College faces, and the steps that must be taken to harness the commitment of all members to work together to safeguard not just our professional interests but also the interests of the public at large. The new Members of Council and I are grateful for the trust and confidence granted us; together we will strive to solve these issues fruitfully.

I wish to pay tribute to all previous Presidents of the College and the Malaysian Radiological Society (MRS). I was a Radiology trainee and an MRS Council member back in the 1970s when first I worked with some of the Founding Fathers of Malaysian Radiology. I was heartened to see some of them again at the AGM this year, looking very well, and know that the College can always count on their support and guidance. The Immediate Past President, Dr Evelyn Ho has worked tirelessly to promote the College nationally and abroad, and has shown boundless energy in meeting the demands of office. Hers is a hard act to follow!

As a member College of the Academy of Medicine Malaysia, a College representative sits on several national level Committees (e.g the Radiology Subspeciality Committee on the National Specialist Register), such that radiologists may be represented, and their voices heard in matters that directly or indirectly affect their professional lives. There is a need to recognize and consolidate these efforts so that the majority of members are informed and satisfied with what the College Councilors are doing for them under the mandate given to them.

The years have brought many changes, and issues in medicine have become more complex and challenging. There are many more stakeholders. But if all of us collaborate and share the load, perhaps we will solve and overcome problems as they arise. Lastly I would like to appeal to all members and radiology colleagues to be actively involved with the College. Please do not hesitate to contribute in whatever way possible so the College, at the Core of Radiology, can continue to be relevant and become more effective in its role in representing all Malaysian radiologists. In the words of a great leader, “Ask not what the CoR can do for you; ask what you can do for the CoR”.

Thank you.
