PPCS Programmes |
The Home Care Program
The Home Care Program started in June 1995
with the employment of 2 nurses initially to form a team
with the volunteer doctors and lay volunteers. Today the
program is managed by 2 full time nurses, one part time
nurse and a full time Centre Coordinator supported by a
group of volunteers which include doctors, and lay people.
The service provided is free but clients have to buy their
own medication. Limited number of equipment like commodes,
wheelchairs, oxygen concentrators are available on loan to
clients. Due to our constraints in human and financial
resources we have to impose the following criteria for
admission into the Program.
Patients
referred to the Home Care Program must have -
1. A
diagnosis of Cancer which is no longer responsive to
curative treatment
2. Agreed
to be referred
3. A
Care-giver at home
4. Live within 20km from PPCC. (This criteria was added in
August 1998)
