The College of Radiology, Academy of Medicine Malaysia Application for Membership – General Information
(Information by the
Academy of Medicine of Malaysia)
 

Applications must be filled out on the prescribed forms and signed by the applicant and must be accompanied by:

1. Certified true copies of:

  • Basic medical degree (s)

  • Post graduate qualifications

2. List of Publications

3. Reprint/copy of the most significant publication

4. Cheque/banker’s order for RM650.00 being entrance fee (RM500.00) and the first year annual subscription (RM150.00) 

Ordinary Membership
Fully registered medical or dental practitioners who -

  • Are certified to be specialists by the appropriate authorities
  • Have a recognized postgraduate or higher qualifications and are of good character and conduct
  • Have been testified by three referees, two of whom must be members of the Academy
  • Have published and presented papers of a standard acceptable to the Council.

Notwithstanding the criteria above, the Council may admit

  • Qualified members of the medical or dental professions of at least 20 years standing, engaged in medical/dental practice provided that not more than ten such members shall be admitted in any one financial year.
  • Qualified members of the medial or dental profession holding higher academic or professional qualifications (eg MD, DMedSc, PhD, Board  Certification) provided that they have contributed significantly to medicine.
  • Persons without medical qualification but engaged full time in a medical discipline, provided that such persons shall hold academic or professional qualifications equivalent to a PhD and have contributed significantly to medicine.

Associate Membership
Medical or dental practitioners who do not fulfil the Ordinary membership criteria of the Academy. Persons in allied professions involved in medical research who are able to further the interest of the Academy. 

Candidate Membership
Fully registered medical or dental practitioners who

  • Are undergoing a recognized training programme
  • Have passed the first part of a recognized professional graduate or  prostgraduate or diploma examination

Members may retain their membership for a period not exceeding six years

For those who have just graduated with your Masters in Radiology or the FRCR …
(Information was compiled by RM Editor) 

  1. Get the application form either from the Academy of Medicine (Ms Kong) or the College of Radiology secretariat (aka Janet Low at UMMC)
  2. You will be accepted as Associate members and be immediately put on the Specialists Register by the Academy of Medicine (as long as you have the necessary post graduate qualification). The application should be made through the College of Radiology Secretariat.
  3. Subsequently, you can become an ordinary member once you have fulfilled the publication/presentation requirements.
  4. The cost of admission to the Academy is RM500.00 as entrance fee and the fee per year is RM150.00 for associate member.
  5. As an associate member, you are part of the College of Radiology already.

Once you have publications and presentations, and they have been accepted by the Academy of Medicine, (again submission made through the College’s secretariat), conversion to ordinary member can then be processed. Contact your lecturers (and mentors) for guidance on this matter of publications, studies etc. 

Please check with the Academy of Medicine website for updates to membership requirements! Do not hesitate, there are obvious advantages (which may not be immediate) to joining the Academy of Medicine. Check out the website for activities. Currently there are many Clinical Practice Guidelines being drawn up – some of which, the College of Radiology is involved in and are still in the draft stages.
