Internationally Recognised Musculoskeletal
Radiologist, Donald Resnick comes to town, Petaling Jaya

The 9th Malaysian Society of Rheumatology-Singapore Society
of Rheumatology Workshops in Rheumatology was themed “From Clinical to
Imaging”. The solid scientific programme served to attract radiologists
as well! Prof Dr Donald Resnick (Professor of Radiology) and Prof Dr Fan
Peng Thim (Consultant Rheumatologist and Clinical Immunologist) were the
very impressive foreign faculty.

Da Ma Cai Health Aid 2008 Cheque Presentation,
Kuala Lumpur

College of Radiology was amongst 26 health-related organisations which
were beneficiaries of the Da Ma Cai Health Aid 2008 programme this year.
A total of RM 195,000 was given to the various organisations in a cheque
presentation ceremony at Hospis Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.

Vascular Ultrasound Course, Kuala Lumpur

With endorsement from the College of Radiology Academy of Medicine of
Malaysia and the support of various sponsors, the Department of
Radiology, Faculty of Medicine of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)
successfully organised an advanced vascular ultrasound course on the 2nd
August 2008.

42nd Malaysia-Singapore Congress of Medicine, Kuala Lumpur

This year’s Congress of Medicine began with the Opening Ceremony where
DYTM Raja Muda Perak Darul Ridzuan Raja Nazrin Shah delivered the 17th
Tun Dr Ismail Oration and many new members were inducted into the
Academy. The Consensus Statement on the Utilisation of Cardiac CT was
also launched at the opening ceremony. The theme of the congress was
“Personalising Medicine – the A La Carte Approach”.

Seminar on New Standard for Whole Body Imaging, Kuala Lumpur

Dr Oliver Klass, a cardiac surgeon and a radiologist in training from
University Medical Centre, Ulm, Germany was in town to share his
experience with cardiac and coronary artery imaging as well as the
evolution of CT technology and clinical relevance.

8th Asia Pacific Congress of
Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology

The College of Radiology and Malaysian Society of Interventional
Radiology were co-organisers of the eighth Asia Pacific Congress of
Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology held in Crowne Plaza Mutiara, Kuala Lumpur. The Congress that began with pre-congress workshops
on the 9th June, stretched from 10-12th June and
boasted a formidable faculty of close to 140. YB Dato’ Liow Tiong Lai,
Minister of Health officiated at the congress opening ceremony.

Regional Cooperation Agreement (RCA):
Strengthening Medical Physics Through Education and Training, Bangi – 27
Mar 2008
A second meeting was convened at Agensi Nuklear Malaysia in Bangi,
Selangor for implementation of the RCA Clinical Training Programme for
Medical Physicists. Prof Dr Kwan-Hoong Ng was acting chair of the
meeting on behalf of Dato’ Dr Rehir Dahalan. Represented at the meeting
were the Malaysia Institute of Physics, Malaysian College of Radiology,
Malaysian Association of Medical Physicists, the Ministry of Health
(Engineering Division) and Agensi Nuklear Malaysia. The aim of the
project was to ensure the availability of a sufficient number of
clinically qualified medical physicists for supporting radiation
medicine programmes. The Regional Cooperative Agreement for the Asia and
Pacific Region has developed through a regional project implemented
under the Technical Cooperation Programme of the IAEA, a Clinical
Training Programme to assist the member states to provide clinical
training to Radiation Oncology Medical Physicists.

Da Ma Cai’s Health Aid 2007 Presents RM160,000 to
Healthcare Organisations, Kuala Lumpur

their annual Health Aid programme at Level 24, Menara Maxis, Kuala
Lumpur on 13 December 2007. The College of Radiology was amongst the 23
health-related organizations who were beneficiaries of the Health Aid.

The How, When And Why in Paediatric Ultrasound,
Kuala Lumpur

Participants at the above workshop gave rave reviews for the high
quality and usefulness of the scientific programme. It made paediatric
ultrasound look “easy”. Roger Gent, Head of Paediatric Ultrasound Unit,
Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide was the main speaker.

Advanced Digital Image Management, Kuala Lumpur

Congratulations to the University of Malaya Medical Centre Continuing
Biomedical Imaging Education (CBIE) for the very timely conference on
“Digital Image Management in a Globalised Economy”. With radiology going
digital, moving towards an integrated healthcare enterprise has or will
become a necessity. Issues, success stories, experience gained,
budgeting, connectivity, standards were presented in this two day event.

Update on the Use of Contrast Media in Cardiac
Imaging and Renal Safety, Kuala Lumpur

An evening symposium on the above theme was held in Le Meridien, Kuala
Lumpur. The series of lectures were delivered by invited speakers, Dr
John Hoe, Consultant Radiologist; Dr Melvin Tan, Consultant Cardiologist
both of whom were from Singapore and Professor Dr Peter Aspelin,
Professor in Medical Radiology from Huddinge University Hospital in
Sweden.

Basic Practical Shoulder & Ankle Ultrasound
Course, Hospital UKM, Kuala Lumpur

The Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine of Universiti
Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) successfully organised a basic shoulder and
ankle ultrasound course on the 3rd and 4th August
2007. The one and a half day course took place at Hospital UKM with
diverse participants ranging from radiographers, sonographers, trainee
radiologists and radiologists and clinicians from both the government
and private hospitals in Malaysia.

of Medicine, Singapore

officiated at the opening of the 41st Singapore-Malaysia
Congress of Medicine, held at the Raffles City Convention Centre,
Singapore. At the opening ceremony, PM Lee was conferred an Honorary
Fellowship.
