The statement was a joint effort by the College of Radiology and the National Heart Association of Malaysia to address issues related to appropriate and judicious use of cardiac computed tomography scans in a setting where the newest and latest rapid CT scanners were being acquired throughout Malaysia.

The theme of the congress was “Personalising Medicine – the A La Carte Approach” and it was held in Shangri La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Organising Chairperson was Prof Dr Rosmawati Mohamad whilst the Scientific Chairperson was Prof Dr Chan Siew Pheng. There were 2 precongress workshops - Critical Appraisal and Train the Trainers (Supervision, Continuous Assessment and Evaluation of the Trainee).

A reception was held after the opening ceremony on the 31 July 2008 whilst on 1st August, the invited overseas Presidents were respectively taken to dinner by their corresponding counterparts in the Academy of Medicine in Malaysia. Instead of a “normal” Congress dinner, an Academy Building Fund Dinner was held on 2 Aug 2008 at the Grand Ballroom to raise funds for the completed but not furnished or fitted Academy of Medicine/Family Physicians/College of Surgeon’s joint building.

During the course of the congress, the joint council meetings of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia and Singapore was held, as well as a special session on “National Specialist Register – The Role of the Academies and the Colleges” with the invited overseas Presidents.
